When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
A quote that’s been a favourite of mine since 2011, I designed and made a laser cut picture of this for a project at university and since then was bitten by the laser cutting bug… you could say that this is where it all began!!
Laser engraving a lemon doesn’t come without its difficulties, for a start a lemon isn’t flat!
The laser is focused on the closest point to the laser to avoid the laser being too close/far away from the material and not achieving the best results… I could have used our rotary attachment to get a design wrapped around the lemon but for this instance I just wanted a simple piece of text.
I tested light etching and deep engraving, the effect only differed in depth rather than discolouration or burning so I opted for a deeper engrave to cast shadows in a photograph giving contrast to the text in the image.
I also tried an orange and an apple but the lemon was by far the best result don’t you think?
